Meet Leslie, A True Fashionista on her college campus
FASHOM: Where do you attend college?
I am currently attending California State University, Long Beach in Long Beach, CA.
FASHOM: What is your major?
I am double majoring in Journalism and Political Science.
FASHOM: What are your career goals after college?
Ideally, I would want to work within fashion journalism because I love fashion and writing and just to be able to set and spread trends, but at the same time I would like to work in politics on the side because it is something that also interests me.
FASHOM: Has your style changed since attending college?
It has definitely changed a lot for me because it was much easier to wear anything in high school since I was just staying in one building the entire day. Now I am much more conscious of what I’m doing that day and dressing accordingly. As well I think I have matured more college in my style, it’s not so much about wearing the brightest or loudest outfit for me anymore, it’s more of what looks good as a whole.
FASHOM: What are some of your tips for college students?
I can’t stress enough about getting yourself organized. I got into a really bad habit in high school of not getting my stuff together and that really hurt me in the beginning. Now that I’ve kind of set a routine for myself it’s much easier. I would also say just do what you can and what you love. I think right now is the time we have to push ourselves as much as we can and try different things to see what it is we really want for our futures.
FASHOM: What was the best advice you ever received about being true to yourself?
The best piece of advice I got, in general, was from my friends and loved ones were just to ignore what people say. There was definitely a time that I gave too much importance to what certain people said about how I looked or what I did and it really did take that advice to make me realize that we are in control of our own lives so we should make decisions about it based on ourselves and not others.
FASHOM: The goal of Fashom is to encourage people to be themselves and express themselves through fashion. Having used the app, what is your opinion about Fashom, what do you think we can do better?
Fashom is great and the message that you send about self-expression through fashion is so important for everyone to know. Fashion is such a great tool we have to show everyone who we are even if we are too shy to express it ourselves. I think an app like Fashom gives everyone the opportunity to not only connect with other people with similar tastes but to help people feel more confident in themselves.
FASHOM: Any message you would like to send out to the world?
What I would say is just stay true to yourself in every way possible. We all go through our own experiences in life that shape us so the only people who truly know us is ourselves. No matter what we go through I think if we are confident in ourselves and ignore what others say, everything will seem a lot easier.
