Men’s Style Tips: Ironing is Not Dead

If I could give the male species two style tips for the rest of my life they would be this: See a tailor, and us an iron! Right now, I’m going to focus on the latter. We’ll tackle the needs for a tailor on another day.

The general consensus on the topic of men’s style in America is that most men aren’t that stylish. Not to say that men don’t know how to make themselves presentable in the morning, but for many of them, their fashion sense walking out of the door is the last thing on their mind; which means an iron may not even be in the house. This is especially true for men under 40 years old.

Instead, men today decide to throw wrinkled clothing in the dryer for a few minutes, use the hot steam from the shower, or just do nothing at all. Since the incentive to iron appears to be in high demand, here is a list of reasons why men should use an iron:

Job Interview/Formal Event

Nothing screams, “I don’t pay attention to detail,” like walking into a job interview in a pair of wrinkled khakis and shirt you obviously haven’t worn in a while. In this situation, the first impression is everything. If you can’t put in the effort to represent yourself in a proper way, how can the interviewer believe you will put in a decent effort to represent their company? Your personal presentation is an initial reflection on your level of professionalism and attention to detail.

A First Date

If you show up to the first date looking sloppy, (aka with wrinkles everywhere), that sends a message. The first date is almost like a job interview, the first impression is everything. Showing up with clothes that are at least ironed will show that you are tidy, and well put together because you care how you look. A woman, if no one else, will appreciate that and the effort you put in.

It Saves Money

Instead of paying a fee per shirt at the end of the month, save yourself some money and iron occasionally. That will take the price down to the cleaners and improve the longevity of your garments.

Look Good, Feel Good

There’s a certain degree of closure derived from a well-ironed shirt. At Fashom, we want people to be as comfortable in their skin as possible and feel empowered by their clothes when they leave the house. Ironing should provide a little bit of confidence to your look that will help you conquer the day feeling like the best you possible.

It Just Looks Better

Having an altogether clean look is stylish on its own. Pants and a shirt that lay uninterrupted on a man is the cherry on top of a good outfit. Like everything in life, do it to the best of your ability. You owe it to yourself to put a conscious effort into the way you present yourself.

Fashom wants men to feel good through clothes, and taking care of your clothes is taking care of yourself! Pull out the old iron on those special occasions if you don’t want to all the time and see how you feel. We guarantee you’ll like the way you look and feel walking out of the house that day.
