Jasmine “Jazzy” Owens’ journey to accept her own body as an inspiring one. When she was a 25-year-old student, she always compared her body to her husband’s and questioned why he would ever marry her.
Society generally criticizes females’ bodies compared to their males’ partners. Jazzy formed depression from this societal pressure. However, this struggle, with the support of her loving husband, helped her accept her body the way it is.
She shared a photo with her husband by the beach on Instagram, this picture received more than 60,000 likes and many responses of how inspiring the couple is and how great of a role model Jazzy is. Unfortunately, there was still much criticism surrounding this photo, but Jazzy reflected those comments with a positive attitude. Jazzy believes these hateful comments motivate her more to love herself and to help other women and men to embrace their own selves.
Today, she has an Instagram profile dedicated only to body positivity posts named, “a_body_positive_jazzy”. Her amazing mission is to share her experiences with those dealing with the same struggle. Here at Fashom, we strive to embrace body positivity and establish a platform for those who can share their own positive vibes. We bleed the hashtag and saying #BetterAsIAm, because just like Jazzy, everyone is better as themselves.
