More than ever now, the media has shaped and molded unrealistic ideas about what the average women should look like. Society has deemed women to be beautiful when they possess a busty chest, flat tummy, thin waistline, and what society calls a “thick” ass. In order to obtain these body proportions, females are turning to body shapewear. Shapewear products can range from Spanx to corsets, all the way to full body suits that flatten the stomach, clinch the upper thighs, and shapes the buttocks.
Model, Khrysty Ana has decided to make a body positive post and statement on Instagram to shed light on the ugly truths about shapewear products. In the Instagram post, the model decided to post a series of photographs of herself after a day of her wearing shapewear. KhrystyAna beautifully and boldly writes, “Do you really want to stop your blood circulation now with those tight shapes to become media’s dream?…on one of the images see my BLUE legs, poor babies from wearing a shaper for few hours. How do you like the reality of impeded blood circulation, infertility, digestive problems, nerve damage, and more? She goes on to say “please take the responsibility of what you poor lovely body will potentially experience. I ask for awareness only.”
It’s imperative for women to know the truth about the harm they could potentially inflict on themselves by simply conforming to wearing shapewear. Body shaping advertisements have become notorious for glorifying the benefits of wearing shapewear, but fail to inform individuals of the dangers. Fashom decided it was too important to not inform our readers. We encourage everyone to embrace and love themselves.
Choose HEALTH over idealistic body physiques and remember that you are #BetterAsIAm!
